Word & Character Counter help
Live counts for anything you paste or type, plus a quick keyword-frequency table. Nothing is uploaded.
What it counts
- Characters with and without whitespace, counted by Unicode code point.
- Words are runs of letters, digits, apostrophes and hyphens.
- Sentences end at
.,!,?or…followed by a space or the end. - Paragraphs are blocks separated by a blank line.
- Reading time assumes 220 words per minute; speaking time 130.
Most-used words
Words of three or more letters are counted. "Ignore common words" drops a small list of function words like the, and, to. The share is that word as a percentage of the counted words.
Limits
- Sentence and paragraph detection is rule-based; unusual punctuation or single-line text can shift the numbers.
